Just 2 More Workcamp Meetings and We're on our Way!

Our trip is less than 3 full weeks away.   I am getting excited about our journey this year and hope you are too.  But first we need to gather together 2 more times in order to prepare as a team on mission.  There will be 2 meeting one for adult leaders only in which we will address your role as an adult leader and the other as a full Workcamp team.  Both these meetings are VERY important and it is vital that you attend.

Adult leaders only meeting will be held  on Tuesday, June 30th
Full attendee meeting will be held on Monday  July 6th   Both meetings will be at 7:30 at the church office/nursery building.

Midnight Run a Success

Midniterun2
Hi All,

Just to let you all know that the June 19 Midnight Run went great with a lot of help from God and many of you and your churches. Everyone that participated deserves a really big hand and a lot of thanks.

- We left Warwick United Methodist Church at a little after 9pm with three vehicles absolutely packed with volunteers and donations. It was a tight squeeze but we successfully were able to pack in everything that was donated by everyone. Don Heatley from Vision Community Church sent us off with a great blessing for our safe and charitable journey that evening.

- We had three vehicles, four adults, and 12 young adults and youths from our various Youth Programs. We also picked up Billy Preston, our Midnight Run Organization city escort, when we arrived in New York City. Everyone that went along for the run had a great experience from this event and I think that it was also a good experience for all of the people we had the opportunity to meet and help. We were pretty well organized which made the distribution go so much easier for everyone. Finding the right size and type clothing can be a bit of a challenge sometimes though despite our best pre-organizational efforts.

- We had seven stops in and around mid-town and lower Manhattan throughout the evening, winding up at our last stop at Penn Station. We were one of a total of six groups participating in a Midnight Run that evening with each group going to different stops throughout the city.

- We distributed: 100 meal bags (sandwich, hard boiled egg, banana, baked cookies), 'sweet & creamy' coffee and hot chocolate, 200 bottles of water, over 300 pairs of underwear and 150 pairs of socks, 60 toiletry kits (soap, shampoo, toothbrush & toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream & razor, and hand lotion), some 50 backpacks, and an assortment of clothing donations (pants, shirts, jackets). Virtually everything that we took in with us got distributed to the folks we met on the street. We did not have to stop at one of the city missions at the end of the evening to drop off anything that was left over because pretty much everything had been given out. Most of our donations held out all the way until the last stop!

- We arrived safely home around 3am, a bit tired more or less.

A great Thank You should go out to everyone that helped in making this run such a successful and rewarding experience for all that were involved. The combined involvement and participation from everyone, both large and small, helped make this a great charitable effort for a very worthy cause. The folks we met were so very grateful that we had made such an effort to come into the city to help them the best we could.

God's Blessings to All,

Kevin Walsh

Workcampers - Two Meetings Coming Up

The first is this Tuesday (the 26th) 7:30 at the Vision Church office.  This is a mandatory meeting for all teens and adult campers.  Parents too, especially if you didn't make the first parents' meeting.  We will begin exploring the theme for the Workcamp and attending to some required logistical matters.

Our second meeting is Monday, June 8th.  Same time & place.  Keep an eye out for emails about Workcamp - that's usually how we communicate.

Dinner Dance is coming! June 5th

Please join us for our 6th Annual Dinner Dance with a "far out" 60's theme to support and sponsor our local teens Work Camp Mission.  This year teens will put their faith into action by serving those in Pittsburgh, PA.  The mission is always focused on serving the less fortunate.  Service includes assisting at a camp for disabled children,
tutor poor or struggling children, renovate a dilapidated home or spruce up untidy yards, host a sport camp or share stories with elderly persons in assisted living facilities, etc...

The Dinner Dance will include a Silent Auction on Friday, June 5th from 7pm until 11pm.  To be held at "The Quality of Worklife" building at the Mid Orange Correction Facility, 900 Kings Highway. The cost is $25.0 per person.  A "groovy" dinner buffet with "hip" music and a silent auction will be "happening".  Invitations were sent to all members of Vision by "Evite".  If you have not received your invitation please contact Genevieve Avino at senoragen@otponline.net or call 845-987-9741. Please let us know if you have silent auction items or services to donate for this worthy cause. If you did not participate last year you are in for a special treat.

Help Us Move to Our New Facility

Our move to our new building in Amity is fast approaching.   To accomplish our move in the most efficient way we are looking for moving volunteers to assist in loading and unloading a U-Haul on Thursday, April 30th, Friday, May 1st and/or  Saturday May 2nd.  If you can help on any or all of these days, please contact Amy Smith

In the weeks that follow ministry leaders will be unpacking, sorting and moving our stuff to it's right spot.  If you are available any days or evenings during the week to help contact Pam Heatley
