Good Friday and Easter at Vision

Journey through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with Vision Community Church

Good Friday Experience - 7:30 PM
This is not your usual Stations of the Cross. It is our interactive Good Friday experience – a slight variation on the ancient church liturgy.

The Stations of the Cross, sometimes called ‘The Way of the Cross’ or ‘Via Crucis,’ began in medieval Europe as a way for Christians to take a figurative pilgrimage to the Holy Land without leaving their home country. Artists would render works based on Christ’s journey to Calvary, and place them in succession, either inside a church building, or outdoors. Worshipers would walk the route, stopping in prayer and devotion at each ‘station.’

On Good Friday, we will stage an interactive, spiritual art-walk right in our worship room.

Easter Worship Celebrations - 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM
Join us this Easter Morning for our customary Easter Celebration with "Live Tomb" and "Pancake Bar". Breakfast will preceed each of the mornings celebrations, so come early to eat. Hey kids...right before each celebration explore the empty tomb with one of God's "angelic" messengers. It's sure to be an Easter morning to remember! Come early for breakfast and pancakes at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM

Pledge Update

The finance team would like to thank all of those in the Vision community who have made pledges of support for 2008. Making a financial pledge is one of the many expressions of commitment to the work of Vision.

Twenty-six families have pledged a total of $68,140 for the 2008 calendar year. This amount represents a 46% increase over what these same families gave in 2007 and is 96% of the total regular offering for Vision in 2007.

With two weeks left to go, the total offering for the first quarter of 2008 was $25,024 which is 48% more than that for the first quarter one year ago. While challenges remain to meet the growing needs of a growing church, the commitment of all who give to Vision is helping to build a firm financial foundation for the future.

How Can We Keep from Singing? by Eileen Fisher

The Women’s Retreat was held Feb. 29th to March 2nd and the theme was a spiritual journey to: JOY. The entire weekend had an airline theme with stewardesses advising passengers to check their mental & emotional baggage at the gate and learn how to relax and enjoy this trip that is “life.” It was a spiritual adventure of a very varied kind.

Throughout the weekend we were addressed by some very talented and life-affirming women. Pam Heatley our keynote speaker spoke to us about soaring through our journey with Christ as our grounding, how not to travel with too much baggage and what to do when we hit turbulence. She encouraged us to share our stories with one another. We were also asked to take an inventory of those things in our lives that we could leave behind, what we could not do without and what we might want to save to review for change.

Workshops were held by Gedge Driscoll, Sharon Knol and Polly Vanderkruik. Gedge presented us with different and beautiful ways one could pray. Sharon showed us a video that depicted quite vividly how song and nature can raise one up from the depths of despair to accept a journey fraught “with danger, toil and snares” but also infused with “love, laughter and hope.” Polly spoke to us about how her faith journey has been made richer by her service to God’s people.

We partook of wonderful food, drink and listened to music led by Amy Smith and Claire Murphy. We spent our days and nights getting to know each other better. We walked a candle-lit labyrinth constructed entirely by our own Women of Vision that was layered with artifacts rich with meaning, encircled by ceremonial music meant to calm, and held in an atmosphere that resonated with healing words intoned for our contemplation. We had our feet washed, our spirits cleansed and our faith renewed. We learned how a life of service could mean that bone-tiredness can and does exist with a happiness of the highest order and we were assured that we are never traveling on our journeys alone. It was a first-class flight and we hope that those who did not come this year can make the trip with us another time. We can guarantee that you’ll have a pleasant flight because we were reminded that during even the most frightening storms some of us may be lucky enough to have our friends beside us but we all have a God who is always with us - a loving God who holds ALL of our lives in the palm of His hand.

Special thanks to the design team, Teresa Robertson, Deb Holton-Smith, Genevieve Avino, Judy Lyons, Deb Patterson, Eileen Fisher, Pam Durante-Williams.

Jesus, The Movie - March 9 & 16 - 5 p.m.

Join us for two Sundays evenings in March--March 9 & 16--to have an informal dinner together at the community center and screen the Emmy-nominated mini-series JESUS, starring Jeremy Sisto, Debra Messing, and Gary Oldman. Come at 5 p.m. for supper (Chinese food and pizza will be provided, just throw a couple of bucks in the hat!) and fellowship. We'll screen the mini-series in 2 parts, and discuss both the film and the story of Jesus. Feel free to invite friends to this spirited retelling (the DVD even comes with a letter from the Pope!) Suitable for kids 10 and up, and adults of all ages! We did this 6 years ago, and had a moving and memorable time. Let Sharon or Bob Scott know if you can come by emailing: slinnea@optonline.net or calling (845) 544-1649 , so we'll know how much food to provide.
